Jefferson City officials hope to have a new voice annunciation software installed in JeffTran buses soon, expanding on other features recently added to the public transit system.
The automatic voice annunciator software will help riders with visibility or hearing impairments know where the buses are.
JeffTran staff and contractor DoubleMap are working out minor issues with the GPS-coordinated software, such as ensuring the pronunciations of bus stops are correct, the volume is not set too high or low, and the locations are said or displayed at the correct times, city Transit Division Director Mark Mehmert said during Tuesday's Jefferson City Public Transit Advisory Committee.
