Former U.S. transportation secretary Ray LaHood will chair a new city task force to develop guidelines on emerging ways of getting around, officials said on Friday.

Former U.S. transportation secretary Ray LaHood will chair a new city task force to develop guidelines on emerging ways of getting around, officials said on Friday.

LaHood is volunteering to lead a group made of about 10 to 20 other members, which will include government officials and members of the private sector, said Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfield, who will be part of the task force. 

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is putting together the transportation and mobility task force to develop guidelines and goals for managing the emergence of new modes of transportation, such as ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft, electric scooters and autonomous cars.
