MATA announces installation of Wi-Fi on entire fleet

Free Wi-Fi access is now available on all fixed-route buses, paratransit vehicles and rail trolley cars.

Free Wi-Fi access is now available on all Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) service vehicles, including its fixed-route buses, paratransit vehicles and rail trolley cars.

This new service will operate under the Go901 network.

The Wi-Fi service is part of MATA’s effort to launch a state-of-the-art next generation fare collection system that in the future will include ticket vending machines, point of sale systems, Smart Cards, Smartmedia validators and mobile ticketing. The new system – which will allow riders to purchase and store tickets, pay for fares while boarding and manage trips – is expected to be operational in late 2021.

These new customer service improvements are a testament to how MATA has been working to improve how it delivers transit services to its customers, said MATA CEO Gary Rosenfeld.

“Free Wi-Fi is a huge step in the right direction toward improving customer service at MATA,” Rosenfeld said. “Our team has worked quickly to accomplish this goal in just four months which is far less time than most transit authorities have been able to implement it. Our goal was to be able to offer this as an early Christmas present for customers and we are happy that we were able to accomplish that.”
