Ineo Systrans Inc., (a division of Equans France), has been selected by Brampton Transit to modernize its entire bus fleet with a new Computer Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL) and Real-Time Passenger Information (RTPI) system. Investing in this technology will help to improve the service quality of Brampton's 475 buses, serving over 31 million passengers in 2022 along 70 fixed routes.
The contract went into effect June 2023 and will deliver a full replacement of Brampton Transit’s current system for its fixed-route services, including the central system, on-board components, communications and passenger information systems with the latest Intelligent Transport Systems technologies. Equans will supply, install, and commission the NAVINEO’s CAD/AVL solution, RTPI systems and interface to existing passenger counters, along with its Smart Yard Management module.
“Ineo Systrans Inc. is pleased to contribute to improving mobility for all riders in Brampton. By deploying innovative solutions, our teams are helping to make smart and sustainable mobility a reality," said Stephan Goguet, COO of Ineo Systrans Inc, an Equans France company. "This reflects Equans' daily commitment to meeting the challenges of the energy, industrial and digital transitions. We would like to thank the city of Brampton for its trust and are fully mobilized to make their public transit service even more attractive."
Major operational upgrade for Brampton Transit fleet
The Equans solution will contribute to a major operational upgrade to Brampton Transit’s existing fleet and support vehicles as it aims to improve dispatch efficiency and data reliability, optimize transit operations and feed real-time information to all passenger facing systems.
Fully cloud hosted, the Equans CAD/AVL will integrate with the city’s current voice and data radio systems ensuring reliable communications between the dispatch offices and the vehicles.
Additional benefits to Brampton Transit include on-time performance indicators on the Mobile Data Terminal and turn by turn guidance, which is especially useful when performing a detour. At dispatch, Brampton Service Delivery Supervisors will be able to make real-time service adjustments and detours, providing stronger route optimization. This will provide a seamless real-time experience across all customer channels (mobile phones, passenger website, automated next stop announcement and variable message signs in the vehicles).
The Equans CAD/AVL will provide integration with Transit Signal Priority (TSP) technology across the Züm bus rapid transit corridors. TSP will optimize travel times and improve on-time performance by influencing the traffic signals for buses that may be running behind schedule, as well as real-time arrival information at every Züm station with updated electronic signs.
The addition of these new systems will improve data reliability, operational tracking and performance, allowing for a better quality and a safer public transit system for residents in the city of Brampton.
The city of Brampton is aiming to further invest in technological and environmental innovation and promotes the development of a safer, more sustainable and accessible mobility.
