The Greater Dayton RTA will join with other public transportation systems across the country to participate in National Get On Board Day on Thursday, April 25.

To celebrate current riders and to encourage anyone to ride public transit, the RTA will offer a free ride to every customer that flashes the Transit app on their phone on Thursday, April 25.

The Transit app not only gives riders real-time information on the arrival times of their buses, but also allows them to plan trips and to connect to other modes of transportation such as Link bike share, or ride-share programs such as Lyft or Uber.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the 2019 National Get On Board Day is a day that encourages people to support public transportation and showcases the benefits it brings to communities.  Each weekday in the Miami Valley, 30,000 people use RTA to get to jobs, medical appointments, and school. Nationally, 34 million people use public transportation daily.

“We are proud to be the Miami Valley’s premier transportation provider and assist thousands of people each day with getting to jobs and other needs,” said Jessica Olson, communications manager at the Greater Dayton RTA. “We hope people will use Transit app to plan a trip with us and also enjoy a free ride as they Get On Board with public transit.”

Public transportation is not only a benefit to riders, but is also a cornerstone of local economies in urban, suburban, and rural communities. Every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization.
