Beta test has begun with riders tapping Hop Cards on TriMet and C-Tran buses, aboard the Portland Streetcar, and at Max, WES and Vine platforms.

The beta test for the new Hop Fastpass regional fare payment system launched today with 250 riders tapping Hop Cards on TriMet, C-Tran and Portland Streetcar vehicles or platforms. This exciting step marks the beginning of crucial rider feedback to improve the new electronic fare system prior to the full launch later this year.

This first test group has received an adult, youth or honored citizen Hop card to register, use and reload with their own money. They are now tapping to pay their fare for all transit trips and will report any issues to our team. Additional beta testers will be added roughly every two weeks until regional launch this summer.

This beta test marks the biggest step yet in system testing and will provide valuable system performance information to the agency. Beta testers will begin using reloadable Hop cards. During this testing period, beta testers will be able to add value to their cards online and at more than 100 retail locations.

In the coming months our beta test group will be asked to test single-use Hop tickets and additional contactless payment devices such as a bank card or smartphone to pay their fare, in addition to testing new mobile applications and website features.

Once fully launched, Hop cards will be available at more than 500 retail locations, including supermarkets, convenience stores and pharmacies. Riders also will be able to load value over the phone, website, on a mobile app or at the TriMet Ticket Office.
