Crews working to build Metrolinx’s Finch West light- rail transit (LRT) have installed the first eight shelters at Driftwood Avenue. These canopies will shelter commuters, provide nighttime lighting to increase safety and visibility and include ticketing machines and route maps.

Two additional canopies will be installed at Humber College station later this month. There will be 116 canopies in total along the line.

Important electrical work

Earlier this fall, crews installed the first two electrical cabinets at the Driftwood stop. Two electrical cabinets were also installed at the Jane & Finch stop.

The cabinets perform three critical functions.

  1.  Powers the lights, PRESTO and pass machines, cameras and PA system
  2. Back-up power in the case of a power outage
  3. System monitoring: Equipment that monitors all of the essential systems

Once the Finch West LRT is complete, there will be 29 electrical cabinets at the 16 surface stops across the route.
