Palm Tran has unveilled the first baseball-themed bus shelters in Florida at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, highlighting the ease of taking transit to enjoy America’s favorite past-time. Conveniently served by Palm Tran route 3, the ballpark is home to Major League Baseball spring training for the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, and also hosts local baseball and soccer events — plus, it’s co-located with the new, 12-acre City Park (along the Haverhill Road entrance served by route 31).

“Riding Palm Tran to the ballpark takes the hassle out of finding parking and avoids traffic,” Palm Tran Executive Director Clinton B. Forbes said. “These eye-catching shelters provide comfort and make riding Palm Tran even easier and more convenient,” he added.

Each covered shelter’s design features silhouette art of players and large benches adorned with a baseball stitching design. The energy-efficient LED interior lighting is powered by solar panels on the roofs. One shelter is conveniently located on the west side of Military Trail adjacent to the ballpark and the other is approximately 900 feet away at the northernmost corner of Military Trail near Palm Beach Lakes High School.

Palm Tran will install a third shelter on the west side of the ballpark, as well as add a new stop, as part of the Haverhill Road service expansion — a significant investment in enhancing public transportation in the region. The improvements will add new street furniture and complement the route 4 extension demonstration to the VA Medical Center — a key Palm Tran hub and transfer station.

The grant-funded shelters were built to resist the elements — able to withstand 160 mph hurricane-strength winds. Both shelters are constructed from aluminum and feature mesh back panels for increased air circulation. Each shelter provides coverage from the weather for approximately 40 people, with places to sit for up to 15 people.
