The press and public are invited to the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company’s new facility on Wednesday, June 28th. The new facility houses all of the Operations and Maintenance formerly located at 1301 Kemper Street.
The event will take place at 419 Bradley Drive between 9:00 a.m. and 12 Noon. Remarks will begin at 9 a.m. concluding with tours until 12 noon. Guests will be treated to light refreshments and open house tours of the facility.
GLTC’s Operations and Maintenance Facility is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The following are some background facts on the new Operations and Maintenance Facility:
- The project began in May, 2015 – with substantial completion in April 2017.
- The project, an estimated $23 million was partially funded by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).
- It houses the entire administrative, operations, and maintenance departments of GLTC.
- It replaces the old facility located at 1301 Kemper Street which is estimated to be nearly 100 years old, and used to house the Lynchburg trolley cars dating back to the early 1900’s.
- The facility is 50,000 square feet and has 8 bus maintenance bays, a wash bay, and fully secured parking for the entire fleet.
- The building is designed to be energy efficient and meets LEED Silver standards.
