WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has won an Engineering Excellence Special Achievement Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies-Illinois for the reconstruction of three stations of the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) Blue Line O’Hare light rail line.
A team led by WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff provided construction engineering services for the $26.6 million reconstruction of the California, Damen, and Western stations, a project known locally as “Your New Blue.” The three stations, built in the late 1800’s, required rehabilitation to restore them to their original condition and make them suitable for another century of service.
Together with the CTA and the design-build general contractor, F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen, the WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff team successfully completed the project during two very short construction windows of 42 days for the California station and 62 days for the Damen station, while the Western station remained open throughout construction in late 2014. The project was delivered under budget with generally positive feedback from the public.
In addition to F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen, the WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff team included the following firms: GSG Consultants; Program Management & Controls Services L.L.C.; Ernest R. Sawyer Enterprises Inc.; Ross Barney Architects; and T.Y. Lin International.
WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff also received an Engineering Excellence Merit Award from ACEC-Illinois for the reconstruction of US 34 from Lew Street to Eldamain Road in Plano, a project of Illinois Department of Transportation. The firm provided design and general consultant services for the widening of the two-lane roadway to four lanes. Other consultants on the project team included American Surveying and Engineering P.C.; EJM Engineering, Inc.; H.R. Green Co.; and Wang Engineering, Inc.
