Spokane Transit Authority installs prototype BRT shelter

Dec. 1, 2021
The prototype was installed at a location where it was convenient to train shelter installers and conduct a design assessment.

The final step in the development of Spokane Transit Authority’s (STA) new High Performance Transit (HPT) shelters and amenities was completed this month with the installation of a prototype of a City Line shelter at Moran Station on the South Hill. Although this location is not on the City Line route, it was selected because it offers the space and flexibility needed to train shelter installers and conduct a thorough design assessment.

STA’s contractor, Wesslen Construction, Inc., built the shelter with assistance from the fabricator, Future Systems, and STA staff. A City Line branded station marker was also installed. The objective was to walk through the installation process and provide a training opportunity for the contractor prior to the station installations that are scheduled for completion next year.

The installation was a success – only minor adjustments to the design will be necessary and the shelter will be open for passenger use at Moran Station within the next few weeks.

This station prototype did not include technological components or a lighting system, both of which will be installed in 2022. Additionally, although the City Line branding scheme was used to verify design concepts on the marker, it will soon be replaced with HPT branding, to be representative of Route 4 – Monroe/Regal that serves the location.
