The Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) announced a partnership with the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the Traverse City Parking Fund for the purchase of six modern transit shelters for the downtown area.
“Transit shelters provide a much-needed amenity to riders to keep them out of the sun, wind, rain and snow, and to enhance the riding experience,” said BATA Executive Director Kelly Dunham. “This partnership with the DDA and the Traverse City Parking Fund is another great example of collaboration in our region for multi-modal transportation.”
New downtown shelter locations include:
• Front & Maple
• Front & Wellington
• State & Park
• 8th Street & Wellington
• State & Pine (Spring 2020)
• Location TBD (Spring 2020)
“The DDA and Traverse City Parking Services are proud to support this project. The shelters look great in downtown Traverse City and most of all continue with our intent to support more multimodal opportunities for the public beyond the single occupied vehicle,” said DDA CEO Jean Derenzy.
BATA and DDA invited the public to a ribbon cutting of the new shelter at State Street & Park Street on Oct. 29 at 4:00 p.m.
BATA’s Bayline route also reached a significant milestone this week by surpassing a quarter million rides.
