Cherriots Goes All In With Enterprise Transit Management Software (ETMS)
Public transit technology implementation in a resource-constrained environment is a daunting challenge. Projects can be delayed or even fail altogether when there is a mismatch of cultures between client and provider, or the implementation team is not on the same page. Worst of all, unsuccessful implementations can often breed mistrust among the workforce, making it even more challenging to course-correct or explore a replacement solution.
This was the situation the team at Cherriots in Salem, Oregon recently faced. Cherriots needed to embark on its third technology transition project in several years. But new agency leadership and a new partner, Avail Technologies, went "all in" together to design and implement an ETMS deployment that was nearly flawless. The enterprise-wide myAvail transit management system — including a CAD/AVL system, Cherriots passenger app, and fleet management software — was designed and deployed on time and within budget. The team of more than 30 internal managers, along with the deployment team from Avail, worked hand-in-hand to tailor the solution for Cherriots and its passengers. Most importantly, the implementation team swiftly regained the trust of the entire frontline team, making adoption and full deployment successful.
