National Transit Institute Announces Transit Academy 2016 to be Held in Philadelphia

The National Transit Institute (NTI)  has announced that its annual, practical hands-on workshop for transportation decision-makers will be held this year in Philadelphia, PA by first-time host property, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SETPA).

Transit Academy 2016, being held June 6-10, 2016, provides attendees with an in-depth look at transit operations, including organization, finance, governance, maintenance, planning and marketing. The workshop is aimed at transportation professionals, including key staff and decision-makers new to the industry from transit agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, state departments of transportation, state legislatures and the federal government.

Transit Academy 2016 attendees will be given the opportunity to interact with transit managers, operators and other experts for a behind-the-scenes glimpse at SEPTA. Serving as instructors, key transit agency personnel will share their knowledge and experience, covering the broad range of responsibilities and functions found in a major transit system. Participants will learn

what is required to operate a transit agency and understand how the numerous transit functions, resources and relationships work together to deliver transit service. Technical tours of SEPTA's operations and maintenance facilities will be offered, and participants will opportunities to examine some of the innovations that SEPTA will be implementing to improve customer service operational efficiency.  Participants will also develop an understanding of how public policy decisions affect the functioning of a transit agency. 

“We are thrilled to be working with our host agency, SEPTA, this year,” said NTI director, Paul Larrousse, “this event will benefit everyone who is new to transit management by providing a comprehensive orientation to the industry and will also help attendees build a network of contacts that can help them as they tackle future challenges.”

Tuition for the 2016 Transit Academy is $450.
