With temperatures on the rise, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) will host “chill stations” at transit centers and several of its busiest bus stops, offering riders free bottled water and tips on how to avoid dangers associated with the summer heat.
Chill stations will be set up throughout the summer to remind riders to stay hydrated and protected from the sun. Staff will hand out bottled water and help riders learn to use the rideRTC app to track their bus in near real-time to help minimize time spent waiting for the bus. Summer heat signage reminding riders to stay “sun smart” will also be placed inside buses and at various stops throughout the valley.
In addition to chill stations, RTC staff will stop by various bus stops around the valley to pass out bottled water to riders. Roaming water distribution will take place throughout July.
The RTC reminds passengers to:
Download the free rideRTC app (iPhone or Android) to track their bus and help minimize time spent waiting outside
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water
Avoid direct sunlight, and minimize wait time at transit stops
Use sunscreen, and be sure to reapply
Dress appropriately with light clothing and wide-brimmed hats, and use umbrellas
