Mass Transit Weekly Update 5/6/2016

This week’s transit update includes videos from Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and the newly release documentary Off the Rails.

Over the next eight months, Presto card readers will be installed on all 1,900 TTC buses. Presto and new fare gates were added to Main Street Station - the first TTC subway station to get a new fare line.

MBTA invited the public into the often unseen work done by those in the operations control center. Showing just how Boston’s central hub operates.

Phase 2 of the Los Angeles Expo Line opened May 20 Train trips between downtown Santa Monica and downtown L.A. now take 46 minutes.The project completes the 15-mile Expo Line between downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica, where the final station is steps from the beach, the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica Place, Third Street Promenade and Tongva Park.

A New Documentary, Off the Rails, tells the true story of Darius McCollum. A man with Asperger’s syndrome, whose overwhelming love of transit has landed him in jail 32 times for impersonating New York City bus drivers and subway conductors and driving their routes.
