The Mass Transit Weekly Update: 4/1/16

American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) highlights the growing number of state departments of transportation are leveraging innovative drone technology to creatively improve safety, reduce traffic congestion and save money.

Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (Metro) Canine Program assists with narcotics detection, explosive detection and criminal apprehension throughout the Houston region. The Canine Program was established in 1998. 

The first Virgin Trains East Coast IEP (Intercity Express Program) train passed through Hampstead Heath station on the North London Line after a media event to launch the trains at London Kings Cross station, the trains are part of the Hitachi A-Train family, most of them will be built in northern England.

Auckland is growing and they need a transport system that can support this growth, Auckland Transport is preparing for this growth with some major projects that are part of the Regional Public Transport Plan.

Representatives from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the City of Ferguson and St. Louis County joined Metro at a ribbon-cutting event to commemorate the completion of the North County Transit Center.

Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) staff (with help from Jefferson High students) shows how easy it is to ride HART buses.

The Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) highlights its real-time apps, the Bus Detective and Transit App, making it easier for customers to determine when their bus will arrive.
