BART Red Line service (Richmond to Millbrae) impacted by power cable issue

June 21, 2022
There is no direct service to San Francisco from the Richmond Line due to the trackside power problem.

The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) began experiencing a power traction cable fault June 17 near the Richmond Station, impacting Richmond Line service. As of June 21, there is no direct service to San Francisco from the Richmond Line.

The Red Line (Richmond-Millbrae+SFO) was cancelled over the weekend and only Orange Line (Richmond to Berryessa) trains were running.

On June 20, riders coming to and from the Richmond direction had train service every 15 minutes in both directions until 8:00 p.m. when trains ran every 30 minutes. Some trains were Orange Line (Richmond to Berryessa) trains and some trains were Red Line trains (Richmond-Millbrae+SFO). Announcements were made on platforms and inside trains.

Transbay riders without direct service had a timed transfer between an Orange Line (Berryessa) train and a Yellow Line (SF/SFO) train going into San Francisco at MacArthur Station and a timed transfer between a Yellow Line (Antioch) train and a Orange Line (Richmond) train coming from San Francisco at 19th St. Oakland Station.

A shuttle train was provided between Millbrae and SFO to connect to Yellow line (Antioch-SFO) service.

Crews are working to determine the exact location of the cable fault and then will begin replacing the damaged cable to allow for full Red and Orange line service to begin. While this issue is similar to what happened in March 2022, it is in a different location on the Richmond Line. BART has been working to replace all aged cable along the 10-mile Richmond Line and unfortunately these problems have happened before full replacement was achieved.
