ION breaks through 73,000 rider mark during opening weekend

Grand River Transit reports that more than 73,000 passengers boarded ION light rail during the opening weekend of service.

Service on Friday June 21 ran from noon to 8 p.m. with over 21,500 passengers boarding the system. 

On Saturday, with service running from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., over 29,500 passengers boarded the system, while on Sunday, with service from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., over 22,000 passengers boarded.

Regular ION light-rail service began June 24, with service commencing at 4:36 a.m. and concluding at 1:45 a.m.
