Due to construction work along the track, Capital Metro will suspend MetroRail service between two stations, Lakeline and Leander, from June 15 to 29.
Alternate transit services are available to MetroRail customers. MetroExpress Route 985 provides weekday service from 4:50 a.m. to 10:50 p.m. between Leander, Lakeline and downtown. MetroExpress Route 987 serves UT and downtown with weekday morning service (southbound, 5:20 a.m. to 8:50 p.m.) and early evening service (northbound, 3 p.m. to 7:10 p.m.).
On Friday evenings, when MetroRail operates later in the evening, complementary shuttle buses will help customers connect between Lakeline and Leander Stations. The shuttle buses will operate June 15, 22 and 29 approximately every 20 minutes from 5 p.m. to 1:25 a.m.
The cost for riding MetroExpress is the same as MetroRail: Commuter Single Ride passes are $3.50 and Day Passes, which allow for 24 hours of unlimited rides on any of Capital Metro’s services, are $7.
Major improvement projects along the 32-mile MetroRail line include a federally mandated Positive Train Control system (PTC) to ensure the long-term safety of the service. PTC enforces travel speeds, maintains temporary speed restrictions and helps to avoid train on train collisions.
PTC related construction and installation projects will continue until 2020. MetroRail service disruptions can be expected, on occasion, until the entire PTC project is complete. Capital Metro will alert customers in advance of any service impacts and provide alternate service when necessary.
