The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and Keolis Commuter Services, the operator of the commuter rail, have released new train schedules which will take effect May 22. Schedules are updated regularly to improve reliability and service for passengers, and this latest revision includes a new stop at Boston Landing in Brighton.
All trains running now will continue to provide service, but the arrival or departure times for several routes were modified slightly.
“We regularly provide to the MBTA passenger feedback and network analysis collected by the transit professionals at every level of our organization,” said David Scorey, general manager and CEO, Keolis Commuter Services. “This information is used to improve service in many ways and to identify opportunities for resource investment. In this case, we’ve been able to make adjustments to the schedule to further improve the passenger experience.”
The Framingham/Worcester Line schedule now includes the new stop at Boston Landing. As a result of this additional stop, arrivals and departure times along the line were adjusted. The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services will continue to offer non-stop train service between Worcester and Boston each weekday. The ‘HeartToHub’ inbound train departs from Worcester at 8:00 a.m. (five minutes earlier than the current schedule) while the outbound train leaves South Station at 7:35 p.m. daily.
Adjustments to the Newburyport/Rockport, Fitchburg, Haverhill and Providence/Stoughton lines were minor. Modifications to select arrival and departure times optimize train meet points and alignment with freight and other train traffic. Both of these help to improve on-time performance.
There will be no changes to the Lowell, Needham, Franklin, Fairmount, Middleborough, Kingston/Plymouth and Greenbush lines.
The new schedule is available online, and passengers are encouraged to check the new schedule in advance of May 22.
