Amtrak customers now can make connections between Amtrak Wolverine Service trains and Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant and other communities along US-127 and I-75 — Michigan’s main north-south highways — using buses operated by Indian Trails Inc., of Owosso.

Schedule details for same-day travel to and from points in west Michigan and Chicago are on a passenger service notice, with northbound customers transferring from Amtrak trains to buses in Battle Creek and southbound customers transferring from buses to trains in Kalamazoo.

For example, a traveler could board an Amtrak Wolverine train in Chicago at 7:20 a.m. CT, transfer to a bus in Battle Creek, and arrive in Gaylord at about 7 p.m. ET.  Similar to the Amtrak trains, these Indian Trails motorcoaches are typically equipped with free cellular-based Wi-Fi, footrests, restrooms, 110V outlets and are wheelchair-accessible.

Here are some examples of coach fares (adult, each way, as low as, subject to further discounts):

Mt. Pleasant to Chicago $59     Gaylord to Chicago $78
Alma   to Chicago $55     Grayling to Chicago $75

Students at Central Michigan, Alma College or other schools can get three-day advance purchase tickets at a student discount under a program available across the Amtrak network.
