Huber+Suhner Set to Launch New Products for Rail at InnoTrans 2016

Sept. 19, 2016

Huber+Suhner is set to launch new, innovative rail connectivity solutions at this year’s InnoTrans exhibition in Berlin.

Huber+Suhner’s booth at InnoTrans focuses on solutions for Connected Mobility — the notion that Huber+Suhner provides instrumental components required to enable broadband network connections on board, from train-to-ground and trackside. As such, it will be showcasing key connectivity solutions allowing operators and passengers to run their increasingly demanding applications seamlessly. These include internet, e-ticketing, passenger information, train control, CCTV or fleet management.

“Travelling by train becomes infinitely more attractive with effective connectivity. Robust broadband communication links for both passengers and operators are key in driving people to use public transport,” said Eric Louis-Marie, market manager Railway at Huber+Suhner." Huber+Suhner connects future-oriented systems in and around the train which then become a communication platform hosting innovative applications that serve passengers as well as ensure reliable, efficient and profitable operations. We are looking forward to showing what we can do at InnoTrans.”

Connections for Train-to-Ground Wireless Networks

In what will be a significant showcase of the company’s latest developments, Huber+Suhner will be displaying its ‘Massive MIMO’ concept, outlining its vision for rail connectivity when the 5G standard comes into use. ‘Massive MIMO’ can be used to either raise bandwidth in data transmission between a train and the outside world or to provide a solution for when there are different systems in
the train that all require roof top antennas.

On display at InnoTrans will be the Sencity Rail MIMO, a 5 port antenna MIMO roof-top antenna for train-to-ground communications. This new model consists of two broadband radiating elements for
2G/3G/4G mobile communication plus GPS and two additional ports for WiFi (2x2 MIMO) in the frequency bands 2.4-2.5 GHz and 4.9-6 GHz.
Connections for in-train Gigabit backbone.

Furthermore, Huber+Suhner will demonstrate how a Gigabit backbone can be built into the train using fiber optic and broadband ethernet cables to link active components.

Huber+Suhner will therefore be showing its project-specific Gigabit inter-vehicle jumper cables at the event, which are resistant to vibration and shock according to the IEC 61373 standard. Tested over several millions of inter-vehicle movement cycles and installed for years on operating trains, these cable systems have shown that, even under harsh environmental conditions.
