Following the announcement of further planned strike action by Southern Rail staff National Express recently vowed it will continue to add extra seats to cater to people in Brighton as necessary.

As part of its ‘Not Such A Drag’ campaign to support travelers affected by the ongoing rail issues National Express, which is already welcoming record numbers of people onto its Brighton to London coaches, will add extra capacity as needed.

The coach company is reporting a spike in advanced ticket sales of 75 per cent year-on-year on its London to Brighton services after it was revealed further strikes planned for Wednesday, September 7, and Thursday, September 8, will cause extensive disruption to train services.

The vow to add extra seats is part of National Express’ ‘Not Such A Drag’ campaign, which underscores the coach company’s belief that travel should be hassle-free.

The campaign has already seen National Express offer thousands of discounted journeys between London and Brighton and cheer commuters with a rendition of disco-classic ‘I Will Survive’, performed by one of the UK’s most recognizable drag artists, Britain’s Got Talent star La Voix. In a special ‘re-vamp’ and as an ongoing show of solidarity for fed-up travelers, the coach company is also re-releasing video footage of the unique performance online.

Tom Stables, managing director, National Express UK Coach, said, “We believe travel should be hassle-free – not a drag – and that’s why we’re promising to add extra seats to our services to support people in Brighton. We offer a reliable and punctual round-the-clock service with a guaranteed seat so perhaps it’s no surprise we’ve seen bookings in Brighton spike by 75 per cent – travelers are voting with their feet”.

National Express runs a daily direct coach service between Brighton and London with services running between 04.50 a.m. – 20.40 p.m. There are multiple pick-up and drop-off points throughout Brighton and stops in London include Streatham, Stockwell and Vauxhall as well as Victoria Coach Station with journey times starting at one hour 18 minutes. Services also call at Gatwick Airport, dropping passengers directly at both the North and South terminals.

National Express customers benefit from unbeatable year-round value with season tickets costing up to 43 per cent cheaper than rail (based on a seven day multi-ride National Express ticket versus a seven day rail pass), and tickets, which start at £5 one-way, remaining affordable right up until the day of travel – allowing people to be more spontaneous with their travel choices.
