National Express train operator c2c recorded the most punctual train service in the country last month, according to new figures released by Network Rail.
96.6% of c2c trains arrived on time in the four weeks to Feb. 6, which is more than on any other train operator. This compares to the national average of 88.4%, and the average among London and South East commuter operators of 86.5%.
Across the past year as a whole, 97.0% of c2c trains arrived on time. Under this long-term punctuality measure, c2c has been continuously the best train operator in the UK since December 2011.
c2c managing director Julian Drury said, "In December we made the biggest timetable changes in a decade. We know that some peak trains are still very busy, and we are working hard to address this. But we were also determined to preserve the punctual and reliable service that our customers rightly expect. These latest results show we can maintain our proud record of providing the UK's most punctual rail service."
Later this month c2c will become the first train operator in the UK to introduce automatic compensation for regular travellers when their trains are delayed for as little as two minutes.
The results published by Network Rail are the Public Performance Measure, which is the Government’s official measure of punctuality in the rail industry.
