Capital Metro Ready for Formula 1 Weekend

Oct. 22, 2015

Capital Metro has finalized its transit plans during the upcoming 2015 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix events, and will again be offering extended train service during Oct. 23-25.

Exact departure and arrival times for each station can be found on the agency's website. A single ride on MetroRail is $3.50 or $7 for a Day Pass. Passes can be purchased on the CapMetro App, on station platforms and at the Transit Store.

MetroRail’s Downtown Station at 4th and Trinity Streets will provide easy access to downtown Fan Fest activities and the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) shuttle site at the Austin Convention Center on Trinity near 4th Street. Park & Ride lots for MetroRail are available at the Leander, Lakeline, Howard and Kramer Stations. The Kramer Station Park & Ride is located a short distance from the station at 2540 Brockton Drive.

In addition to expanded MetroRail service, Capital Metro will be offering several other transit options during F1 weekend.

MetroRapid

Race fans can also take advantage of regular service on two MetroRapid route options, stopping directly downtown, with eight shared stations to choose from. MetroRapid Route 801 runs between North Lamar and South Congress, while Route 803 runs from Burnet to South Lamar. A single ride is $1.75 or $3.50 for a Day Pass.

Local Bus Service

With taxi, pedicab and shared-ride service price surging during F1, Local MetroBus service is an inexpensive and reliable way to get around Austin during special events. A single ride is $1.25 or $2.50 for a Day Pass.

Routes 4, 17, 21, 22 and 100 will be detoured near the Austin Convention Center due to the Circuit of the Americas shuttle site.

MetroAiport Service

MetroAirport will operate regular service between Austin Bergstrom International Airport and downtown Austin for $1.75 a ride. Buses are equipped with luggage racks, and are available on the hour and half hour outside baggage claim. MetroAirport can take race fans straight to the heart of downtown Austin, where they’ll have direct access to the Capitol, business and entertainment districts, restaurants, museums, the University of Texas and many areas hotels, including the Hyatt, Omni, Marriott and Hilton.

Late Night Routes

Capital Metro is a great choice for those preferring to stay out late F1 weekend. Night Owl service runs from midnight until 3 a.m. Monday through Saturday, with five routes operating between popular late night destinations on 6th Street and local neighborhoods. E-Bus service operates Thursday through Saturday night from about 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. Fares on both the Night Owl and E-Bus are $1.25 for a single ride or $2.50 for a Day Pass.

Mobile App

Capital Metro’s free mobile app allows riders to buy passes, get real-time information, plan a trip, or look up routes and schedules. The CapMetro App is available for download on the Apple, Windows and Android stores.
