Mike Sherlock Joins Transdev as Vice President of Rail

Mike Sherlock has joined the Transdev Rail Division as vice president of rail. Sherlock will oversee operations Transdev’s Commuter Rail, Light Rail and Streetcar operations in the U.S.  Sherlock is a seasoned veteran in the rail industry and brings a passion for operating safe, well managed, and efficient railroads that exceed the expectations of clients and passengers.

Sherlock brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new position. Over his 40-year career, he has worked for the Penn Central Railroad, ConRail and Amtrak. He served as superintendent of operations, general superintendent and deputy general manager at Amtrak, and was responsible for 2,300 employees working in customer service, operations and maintenance of equipment.  He also directed oversight of the Amtrak’s Consolidated National Operations Center.  In these roles he was responsible for many aspects of operations including train and engine service, on-board service, commuter service, vehicle and track maintenance, and dispatch.  Sherlock also took a leading role in large-scale industry projects throughout his career, such as organizing a unified operating rulebook for the major railroads in the Northeast

Sherlock has worked his way up through a variety of roles and responsibilities in the industry, which have deepened his understanding of rail operations. His earlier roles include working as a block operator, a rules examiner, a classroom trainer, and various other management positions of increasing responsibilities.

Sherlock is an active member of the American Association of Railroad Superintendents (AARS), has served for several years on the Board of Directors and the Executive Board, and is currently the Past President.  He graduated from Cabrini College in Radnor, PA with a B.A. in Organizational Management. He has also completed Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma courses at Villanova University.
