The first subway cars acquired by the STM, named MR-63, reaching the end of its useful life. The STM will gradually replace them following the arrival of new metro cars Azur. Some options whose reyclage are envisaged to determine what they will become.
The MR-63 have an undeniable sentimental value and the STM has received numerous project ideas reusing these iconic cars. That is why steps are underway with stakeholders to conserve and give a second life to some of these iconic cars in Montreal. A call for projects will be also launched in the winter of 2016.
But like all cars do not have a market, a tender was launched to recycle the MR-63 subway cars. Indeed, the STM wants to hire a company that provides collection, transport, dismantling, development and recycling of these cars.
