LA Metro to Open Bike Hub
L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas will join officials from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and members of the San Gabriel Valley bicycle community on Sept. 14, to announce the grand opening of the agency’s very first “Metro Bike Hub” at busy El Monte Station.
The new $635,000, 1,100-plus square-foot facility is located in prime ground-floor retail space and will provide a full suite of services for bicycle commuters, including controlled entry for bicycles under closed-circuit TV surveillance, friendly staff during morning hours, folding bike rentals, same-day repairs, accessory sales and bike-related clinics.
The facility is the first of five planned bike hubs that will add nearly 700 secure bicycle parking spaces at high-demand transit stations countywide. Bike hubs are a key new Metro strategy to make it easier for more bicyclists to access Metro’s expanding transit system.
