Valley Metro Rail Uses 105 Tons of Bottled Water to Test New Extension

July 23, 2015

How do you test a passenger vehicle without passengers? Fill it with 105 tons of bottled water. Valley Metro and Valley Transit Constructors (VTC), the contractor on the Central Mesa Light Rail Extension, loaded six light rail vehicles with 184,000 bottles of water as a way to simulate passengers on the nearly complete extension. At the completion of testing, the bottled water was donated to United Food Bank in Mesa.

“The water will meet our needs for train testing and then help the need in the community,” said Chris Chaffee Valley Transit Constructors project manager, Southwest District. “During the hot summer months there is an increased demand for bottled water it the Valley. We hope the donation relieves some of the strain on the local food bank.”
