CDOT Announces the Passing of John Valerio

July 16, 2015

The division of transit and rail at CDOT is sad to announce the passing of John Valerio at the age of 50.  John died peacefully in the presence of loved ones at the Denver Hospice Center, on June 28, following a lengthy illness.

John joined CDOT in 2001, serving as both a rail and transit planner, first for the division of transportation development, then for DTR.  He was known for his tireless dedication to promoting (and personally using) alternatives to the single occupant vehicle, which he saw as the best way for CDOT to fulfill its mission of providing "the best multi modal transportation system for Colorado."  To that end, John was the driving force in promoting and creating regional and intercity bus routes in Colorado that gave travelers meaningful passenger connections between communities.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering for John at Boettcher Mansion, on Lookout Mountain, on July 21 at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to join his family, friends and co-workers for a light buffet of hors d'oeuvres following the ceremony.
