On March 23, Valley Metro celebrated the fourth milestone of the Central Mesa Light Rail Extension. The three-mile project is taking on an updated look with new paving, traffic signals and stations. For the first time, community members and dignitaries, including Mesa Mayor John Giles, the Federal Transit Administration and elected officials from Chandler, Mesa, Phoenix and Maricopa County walked across the Mesa Dr./Main St. station platform. The station art illustrates a mother and father reading to their children, representing the gift of storytelling as it’s passed down from one generation to the next.
The event included remarks by Mayor Giles, FTA Regional Administrator Leslie Rogers and Valley Metro Rail Board Chair and Mesa Vice Mayor Dennis Kavanaugh. Attendees received a commemorative pin marking the fourth major milestone in the construction of the extension.
