On June 29, Edmonton Transit System (ETS) buses will replace all LRT service. The disruption is necessary to allow for testing of a new signalling system for the LRT.

LRT service along the Capital Line (Clareview to Century Park) will be suspended for the entire service day. Bus route 505 will replace LRT service, with buses stopping at every station between Clareview and Century Park. Service frequency will be 7-8 minutes.

This suspension of LRT service is part of a series of tests to ensure that the new signalling system is working properly in advance of the opening of the Metro Line. The new system has been installed so that Metro Line and Capital Line trains can safely and reliably share the tracks. Further tests and resulting LRT service disruptions will be scheduled to minimize impacts to ETS customers.

The Metro Line is scheduled to open by the end of 2014. It represents the next major step towards transforming Edmonton’s transportation system. The new line is expected to add 13,200 weekday riders to Edmonton’s LRT network and link major destinations like NAIT, the Royal Alexandra Hospital and MacEwan University to the rest of the network.

The city of Edmonton thanks ETS customers for their patience and understanding during the LRT service shutdown.
