In 2015, Phoenix voters approved a tax measure to raise $17.5 billion for expanded light rail and bus service, known as T2050.
Since then, bus ridership has gone up but light rail hasn’t seen the same success.
Then, in a recent 5-3 vote, the Phoenix City Council authorized city professional staff to spend time exploring options to move T2050 tax funds from light rail expansion to street repairs.
