CA: Novato $2M Short for Downtown SMART Station

The cost to build a downtown Novato train stop has increased by about $2 million and the city must now find the extra funds to complete the project.

The cost to build a downtown Novato train stop has increased by about $2 million and the city must now find the extra funds to complete the project.

While the station was initially pegged for opening this year, that timeline has shifted to next year, perhaps coinciding with the opening of the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit station in Larkspur — that is, if money can be found to complete the new Novato stop.

The City Council will take up the issue in July and in the meantime Novato officials are looking to local and state agencies for grants to address the increased cost.
