NC: CATS' Red Line Study to Continue, Despite Motion to End It

A motion made by Huntersville Mayor John Aneralla to end a Charlotte Area Transit System study of the Red Line failed to pass.

Aneralla was the only member of the Metropolitan Transit Commission, which consists of nine voting members, to vote in favor of terminating the latest study of the Red Line, which CATS began last year to determine rider preferences for mass transit as well as possible alternate routes for the north corridor.

Aneralla said funding for the Red Line study -- about one third complete and costing north of $2 million -- should be redirected to enhancing express bus transit from north Mecklenburg County or acquiring land to build more park-and-ride facilities.
