The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit agency will receive $10.5 million in new gas tax money to allow it to provide more rides to passengers.
The California State Transportation Agency will distribute the funding over a three-year period, as part of the State Rail Assistance program funded by Senate Bill 1, the new gas tax.
SMART was among seven agencies to receive a portion of the $51.9 million for intercity and commuter rail.
