The union for HSR drivers says it opposes "privatization" of the proposed LRT and wants the city to respect a longstanding contract clause forbidding outside operators from running transit service in Hamilton.

The union for HSR drivers says it opposes "privatization" of the proposed LRT and wants the city to respect a longstanding contract clause forbidding outside operators from running transit service in Hamilton.

Eric Tuck, president of ATU Local 107, emphasized his union is "very deliberately" refraining from public advocacy for or against light rail transit itself.

"It's not our role to decide," he said Tuesday, the day before council was set to vote on a crucial project study to stall or push forward a $1-billion LRT line in the lower city.
