NJ: Hoboken Officials: PATH Service Cuts Could Hurt Real Estate Appeal, Including NJ Transit's Rail Yards

For many, proximity to New York City is a major selling point for living in Hoboken and Jersey City. But some officials say cutting overnight PATH train service could jeopardize the area's appeal—especially when it comes to future development projects, such as plans for the Hoboken rail yards.  

A recent report by Port Authority has drawn criticism from local and state officials, especially its recommendation to axe overnight PATH train service. Hoboken Councilman Ravinder Bhalla said he's concerned the change could harm the market feasibility of the redevelopment plan for the Hoboken rail yards. The city councilrecently passed the contentious plan, which calls for a baseline 2.2 million square foot mixed-use project at the "doorstep of the Hoboken PATH station," Bhalla wrote in a letter.
