The public consultation period for the 2.33bn-real (US$1.14bn) tender for construction and operation of the Linha Azul metro line in southern Brazil's Paraná state capital Curitiba will end on July 18, municipal secretary Dinorah Nogara told BNamericas.
"The deadline was originally set for June 18, but an extension was granted due to high demand for information as well as to await a new tax measure soon to be announced by the federal government regarding public-private partnerships [PPP]," Nogara said.
The city aims to launch the tender by year-end and kick off civil works in early 2013, the secretary added. A public hearing for the project in May attracted companies including Andrade Gutierrez, CR Almeida, Queiroz Galvão, Hitachi, Siemens, OAS, Odebrecht, Ivaí, Grupo Isdra, CAF do Brasil, Ivespar, Esteio, J Malucelli, and Geplan.

The 34-year concession involves building of the line, which is expected to take four years, as well as operating and maintaining it for the remainder of the contract.
Companies or consortiums with a maximum of five participants are eligible to bid. However, international consortiums must be lead by a Brazilian company.
A winner will be selected based on the lowest passenger fare, with the ceiling price set at 1.81 reais.
The 14.2km subway line will have 13 stations, connecting CIC Sul station in the southernmost part of the city to Rua das Flores station in the downtown area. It will operate 18 trains made up of five cars apiece, each train with capacity to transport 400,000 passengers daily.
