An explosion took place Thursday on a railroad in Russia's constituent republic of Dagestan, ITAR-TASS reported, citing a spokesperson for the local transport police.

A self-made bomb with an equivalent of 3 kilograms of TNT exploded under a freight train running from Kizilyurt to Makhachkala at 7:20 a.m. Moscow time, the spokesperson said.

One locomotive and a railway track were damaged, but no cars were derailed.

No casualties have been reported.

Following a short delay, rail traffic has been restored.

This is the latest in a number of incidents that continue to plague Russia's restive North Caucasus. Terrorist acts have seen a sharp increase in Dagestan in recent years.
