Love on Transit: Valentine's Passenger Profiles

Feb. 12, 2016
In celebration of Valentine’s Day, St. Louis’ Metro is sharing the stories of couples who met on MetroBus or MetroLink on its blog NextStop.

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and St. Louis’ Metro’s blog NextStop is changing up its Passenger Profiles for February. While still profiling riders from Missouri and Illinois, it is featuring passengers who met on MetroBus or MetroLink and have since become a couple.

Valentine Passenger Profile: Tammisha and Steve

According to Tammisha, it all happened at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink Station during the evening on May 31, 2006. Tammisha was making small talk with a Metro Public Safety officer, when all of a sudden, Steve descended the stairs to the MetroLink platform.

“When he came down those stairs,” Tammisha said, “it was love at first sight.”

From that chance encounter in May 2006, their relationship has only grown stronger, and today they share their love with their children. In fact, the whole family recently rode Metro together, riding the #4 Natural Bridge to the Civic Center Transit Center and hopping aboard MetroLink to the Union Station MetroLink Station.

“We wanted to show our kids where we first met,” she said. “It brought back the nostalgia.”

Valentine Passenger Profile: Kristen and Chris

Fifteen years ago, Kristen and Chris were just two MetroLink passengers who rode the same train to work every day, but whose paths never crossed. Little did they know that fate would change their lives forever in the fall of 2001, with a little help from a matchmaker — a common friend.

Back then, Kristen would board MetroLink during the week with her friend Corey at the Swansea MetroLink Station, and they would ride together to the 8th & Pine MetroLink Station where Kristen would get off to head to work. Corey would continue his journey with his friend Chris, who also happened to ride that same train to work, and they would both get off at the Union Station MetroLink Station.

One day in October 2001, Kristen happened to ask Corey if he knew of any single guys that might be a good match for her. Riding MetroLink with his two friends every day, Corey couldn’t help but suggest Chris. Corey gave her Chris’ email address, and the two soon started exchanging emails. Emails quickly turned into dates to Cardinals and Rams games. Those dates turned into trips to meet each other’s parents for dinner and family gatherings.

If it hadn’t been for MetroLink and their friend Corey, Kristen said she probably would have never met Chris. Luckily, fate has a way of working it out in the end.

On October 18, 2003, Kristen and Chris were married and, once again, MetroLink played a part — albeit a smaller one. One of their wedding photos includes the Fairview Heights MetroLink Station as a backdrop.

Today, Kristen and Chris have three beautiful children: Allison, Ronald and Roy. And just like their parents, they like riding the train.
