After 27 years with the Regional Transportation District, Scott Reed has announced his retirement as assistant general manager of communications.

After 27 years with the Regional Transportation District, Scott Reed has announced his retirement as assistant general manager of communications.

Laurie Huff, who joined the agency in April 2017 as senior specialist in public affairs, will serve as RTD’s primary media contact. Before RTD, she worked as a public relations practitioner for eight years in Colorado and, prior to that, as a newspaper journalist in Northern and Coastal California.

Media outlets also will continue to work with Tina Jaquez, RTD’s media relations & public affairs manager, who has more than 18 years of public relations and marketing experience at RTD.

“Scott has made so many contributions to the agency,” said RTD CEO and General Manager Dave Genova. “He has worked tirelessly over the years, demonstrating incredible dedication and commitment to RTD and the community.”

Reed started with RTD in 1991, when the agency was just starting to build the Rocky Mountain region’s first light rail line. During his tenure, RTD expanded the Denver region’s rail network from the original 5.3-mile Central light rail line to the current 87 miles of light rail and commuter rail now in operation, with more under construction; completed the massive reconstruction of the Denver Union Station transit center; began service on the metro area’s first bus rapid transit line, the Flatiron Flyer; and made many more accomplishments.

Reed conservatively estimates that he has given more than 30,000 interviews or media responses during his career at RTD.

“I have felt blessed every single day I’ve served the district and am incredibly proud of all we’ve achieved and will achieve,” Reed said. “There isn’t a single agency in the metro area that has done more to shape our future in a positive way than RTD. I’m honored to have been even a small part of that success.”
