Nov. 24--SAN FRANCISCO -- A ferry boat carrying 53 passengers collided into a dock at the Ferry Building along the Embarcadero on Friday afternoon, slightly injuring two people on board.
A spokeswoman for the Golden Gate Transit District told the Marin Independent Journal the ferry was coming from Larkspur when it sustained damage during the collision.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, Priya Clemens said.
A crew member aboard the ferry notified Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders about 2:40 p.m.
A witness told The Associated Press the ferry apparently bumped into one dock before careening toward another dock.
Tiffany Dennis said the accident set off panic among a crowd of people dining and shopping along the waterfront. The vessel stopped when it struck a concrete walkway.
One passenger suffered injuries to their back, but refused
treatment, according to authorities. Another passenger was treated at the scene for a bruised hip.
The vessel and dock were damaged, but the incident did not cause any delays in ferry service. There were no reports of pollution as a result of the accident, according to the Coast Guard, which is investigating what happened.
"The purpose of the Coast Guard's marine investigations is to ensure we understand the cause of the collision and are able to recommend measures that can prevent future incidents," Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Krysia Pohl said in a statement. "Our primary concern in any investigation is safety of passengers and the environment."
