The Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT), the Miami-Dade County entity created to oversee the county’s voter-approved transportation plan, launched its CITT Ambassador Program. The program seeks to establish a proactive, systematic way of capturing transit riders’ feedback in exchange for mobility rewards.
As CITT Ambassadors, frequent transit riders fill out surveys that can be accessed via an online app. The information captured is then compiled and will be shared with the Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works, local municipalities and on-demand service companies in an effort to enhance the transit experience. The program also helps the CITT ensure assets funded by the county’s half-cent Surtax remain in good condition.
“As the independent trust charged with overseeing how half-penny Surtax funds are invested in transportation projects, the CITT Ambassador Program helps to augment our efforts as good stewards of the county’s surtax funds and helps us monitor the state of our transit assets,” said CITT Chair Oscar J. Braynon.
The CITT Ambassador program also supports Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s priorities of increasing community engagement and enhancing transit riders’ experience.
“I believe firmly that our community members are experts, and their input is critical to inform and shape our government priorities and policies. The CITT Ambassador Program goes hand-in-hand with this vision,” Levine Cava said. “Through this program, we’ll be able to have our most frequent transit riders share with us their ideas for improving our transit services. This is just a small example of the more participatory government the county is building, and I’m eager to learn and share what our CITT Ambassadors bring to the table.”
What is the CITT Ambassador Program and how it works
The CITT Ambassadors are volunteers who are frequent transit riders and regularly share their observations of transit services via the Velocia application. Once transit riders are registered CITT Ambassadors, they can earn mobility rewards by:
- Completing online surveys
- Participating in focus groups
- Sharing transportation information via their social media channels
Rewards are earned in the form of Velos, or points, that can be used for transit passes, discounts on Uber and Lyft rides, scooter rentals and more.
