CapMetro reports ridership has exceeded 2 million

Oct. 26, 2022
The milestone is the first time since February 2020 ridership has reached the mark and continues the agency's current trend of consecutive ridership growth.

CapMetro’s ridership exceeded 2 million customers in one month for the first time since February 2020. In September, CapMetro saw 2,080,446 customers on MetroBus, MetroAccess, MetroRail and other services.

The new milestone helped contribute to the 20,482,594 customers served for the entire Fiscal Year 2022 (Oct. 2021-Sept.2022). CapMetro experienced more than 20 percent year-over-year ridership growth in FY2022, compared to FY2021.

“Ridership is steadily increasing in CapMetro’s service area, and we appreciate our customers who trust us to get them to where they need to go,” said interim President and CEO of CapMetro, Dottie Watkins. “We can’t reach these milestones without our customers. As we continue to connect our region and expand services through Project Connect and other projects, ridership will grow even more.”

Additionally, the agency has seen three consecutive months of continued ridership growth. On average, CapMetro has seen consecutive ridership growth every month in 2022 compared to 2021, and overall, the agency’s ridership is around 70 percent of pre-pandemic levels, which is in line with the industry’s ridership rebound.
