The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada and community partners are hosting two pop-up events in April at the Bonneville Transit Center (BTC) in downtown Las Vegas.
Approximately 9,000 customers visit the BTC each weekday, making it an ideal location to provide a variety of social services to transit riders and the nearby community. The BTC is also located adjacent to both an area of persistent poverty and one of the more densely populated food deserts in the region, making it an ideal location to offer programming that expands access to critical resources and services.
In August 2020, the RTC Board adopted the “Southern Nevada Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan,” which suggested co-locating services at transportation hubs. Providing services at a neighborhood level rather than the regional level reduces travel time and cost; reduces strain on the regional transportation network; and helps to facilitate integration of services amongst providers.
On April 6, RTC and the Southern Nevada Health District and Veggie Buck Truck will host a fresh produce pop-up event. This pop-up market provides access to low-cost, fresh fruits and vegetables at about one dollar per pound.
On April 19, RTC, the Opportunity Village, the Southern Nevada Housing Authority, Southern Nevada Transit Coalition and Clark County Social Services will host a Nevada Homeless Alliance Pop-up Connect Event. This event will connect individuals and families with on-site social services including housing assistance, medical care, employment support, hygiene care and other resources.
