Latinos In Transit (LIT) has announced its board of directors for 2022-2023.
The board approved three new directors and filled all officer positions during LIT’s monthly board meeting in January 2022. The three new board members include Rick Pulido, vice president of business development for National Express Transit Corporation; Mariela Garcia-Colberg, senior program manager of cooperative research programs for the Transportation Research Board (TRB) – National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine; and Megan Perrero, associate editor for Mass Transit magazine.
“I joined the LIT family as their mission aligns with what I believe is important to the future success of the transit industry—developing and implementing programs, strategy’s and partnerships with transit leaders and agency’s that seek to create meaningful opportunities for Latinos in transit,” said Pulido on his confirmation to the board.
Garcia-Colberg offered similar sentiments, adding that she’s excited to spread awareness about TRB.
“I am looking forward to joining a dynamic board and to contribute to the advancement of Latinos. It is also a great opportunity to introduce the LIT membership to what we do at the Transportation Research Board and vice versa,” said Garcia-Colberg.
And Perrero noted what she hopes to bring to the organization.
"I'm thrilled to join the LIT Board of Directors. Since its inception, LIT has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for Latinos and other underrepresented groups in the transit industry. I'm honored to contribute to this cause, and I look forward to bolstering the organization's mission through strategic communication and marketing strategies. Thank you to the current directors for allowing me this opportunity. I'm excited to be working together."
In addition to its new directors, LIT also elected its officers for this year. Alva Carrasco will continue to service as president of the board and Elizabeth (Liz) Carter will continue in her role as secretary. Eugenio Bonet was selected as the new treasurer and Herold Humphrey was recently chosen to be the vice president.
Other board news
LIT also announced it is looking for its first administrative director. The position will start as part time for an initial assignment of six months with the goal of growing the position to full-time employment. Initially, the position will require up to 20 hours of effort each week and will not exceed 80 hours per month, unless authorized in advance by the board’s executive committee. Additionally, LIT President Carrasco will be honored with a Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) award. COMTO’s “Celebrating Women Who Move the Nation” awards breakfast recognizes the outstanding contributions of women leading and advancing America’s transportation industry. In observance of Women’s History Month, to date, COMTO says it has inducted 116 women into this signature class of leaders in the transportation industry.
COMTO explains the awards represent a broad cross-section of multi-modal transportation in both the private and public sectors, and these women exemplify the very definition of excellence. While their areas of influence and affiliations are diverse, their unequivocal commitment to advancing and strengthening the nation’s infrastructure is unparalleled, COMTO concludes.
