The Fiscal Year 2022 operating and capital budgets were unanimously approved by the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) Board of Directors.
The adopted SamTrans FY22 operating budget is $199.4 million and the capital budget is $41.1 million.
Funds from the operating budget will support day-to-day management of district services, including motor bus and Contract Urban Bus (CUB) service, among other expenditures. Over the last fiscal year, SamTrans has been trying to rebound from the negative impacts the COVID-19 pandemic has had on
ridership. With the current rate of vaccine distributions and reopening of local businesses across San Mateo County, the FY22 budget assumes a significant recovery from COVID-19.
In keeping with the district’s need to conserve financial resources, the capital budget’s final recommendations reflect the most critical projects that support the district’s goals. Approved projects include ensuring vehicles and facilities are maintained in a state of good repair, and investments in infrastructure and green mobility for the county.
Adoption of the budgets is an important step along the way towards a future that provides service that is relevant, adaptable and financially sustainable.
The district’s FY22 operating budget begins July 1, 2021, and ends on June 30, 2022.
