John Zinzarella will oversee the finance, procurement and human resources departments.

John Zinzarella has joined the Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) as the new chief financial officer (CFO) effective Jan. 6, 2021.

The new CFO has expanded oversight internally of the finance, procurement and human resources departments and supports GRTC senior leadership.

"John is a grounded, exceptionally experienced addition to our team, and he brings decades of expertise managing corporate finances and cross-departmental teams," said GRTC CEO Julie Timm. "His professional career spans numerous business sectors, including municipal utilities, global pharmaceutical/biotech, distribution, manufacturing and public accounting. GRTC will benefit tremendously from his business analytics and forecasting acumen, particularly as we collaborate with localities and the Central Virginia Transportation Authority on strategic planning for regional transportation solutions while simultaneously recovering from the pandemic.”

Zinzarella most recently served as CFO and deputy CEO of the Metropolitan District Commission in Hartford. After working in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New York during his career, Zinzarella now returns to Virginia, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Virginia Tech in 1987.

“I consider myself extremely fortunate to join the GRTC family in 2021 because of the impressive growth, resilience and positive financial performance demonstrated in recent years and especially during the pandemic," said Zinzarella. "I look forward to partnering with GRTC’s executive leadership team to assist guiding the organization through the period of economic recovery and to emerge as a stronger organization from the pandemic, while financially protecting GRTC jobs, continuity of service for our valued customers and with an eye to planning for future mobility services throughout the region.”

Zinzarella joins the GRTC executive leadership team, which includes the CEO and chief of staff.
